Out of sight, out of mind
In this week's Field Notes From Hell: Thoughts on The Forever Purge, the new season of Slasher, and the start of my career as a Rappler.
Welcome to Field Notes From Hell—the weekly roundup email from my twisted newsletter, Deep Cuts. Each dispatch contains key horror news, thoughts on recent horror films, and personal life updates.
Here are this week’s Field Notes:
🗽 The Forever Purge is fine, albeit being a late release post-Trump. As with most things, anarchy loses texture when we’ve all sort of lived it. Still, can’t help but give in to the affect of aboriginals watching their **stolen** land fall into ruin.
🔪 The trailer for the fourth season of Slasher is out. It looks like a ghastly mix of You’re Next and Ready Or Not. In short, I’ll be watching. Watch the trailer here.
😱 The Final Girls Support Group is **already** getting a TV adaptation.
🩸 Tons of classic slasher remakes are in the woodwork. Between Halloween Kills, The Candyman, SyFy’s Chucky, and Amazon’s I Know What You Did Last Summer, which ones are your favorites?
🎃 American Horror Stories all but confirms that Ryan Murphy is done with AHS. Have you seen the first three episodes yet?
🙅♂️ Jordan Peele dropped the poster for his next horror movie, Nope. The internet, expectedly, went nuts.
🎲 Not them horror bros threatened by the news of a drag queen **potentially** playing Pinhead in Hulu’s new Hellraiser, a film that’s inherently sex-pos and queer.
💉 I got my second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine this week. Do your part. Get vaxx’d and maybe we’ll see each other in the movies soon!
💼 Started a new job at Rappler as a Senior Content Strategist. Excited to participate and embolden Filipinos to #CourageOn and #HoldTheLine.
