Them, ensnared
In this week's Field Notes From Hell: Thoughts on the new Filipino thriller, 'Tenement 66', featuring impoverished tweens unwittingly robbing a dangerous old man.
Welcome to this week’s Field Notes From Hell—the weekly roundup email from my twisted newsletter, Deep Cuts. Each dispatch contains key horror news, thoughts on recent horror films, and personal life updates.
Here are this week’s Field Notes:
🏚 Though rough around the edges, Rae Red’s Tenement 66 hits on a scheme that encroaches the lives of the impoverished many; to live in constant fear and with helpless anxiety compounds having to navigate a society that stacks the whole deck against you. O.K. thriller. Great young cast.
🎙 Recorded a Pervision pod around it — dropping tomorrow!
😈 Four episodes in with American Horror Stories. It’s still terrible.
🦷 If you’re on the prowl for great horror (read: horror-adjacent) anthologies, check Slasher, Into the Dark, Creepshow, Channel Zero, and The Number 9.
🐷 A bit behind on my watchlist. Yet to watch Pig and Blood Red Sky.
🔪 The official trailer for Chucky has dropped. Color me hyped.
🙏 Execs are doubling down on the horror remakes. Now they’re making an Exorcist remake too?
👽 Also, a Predator prequel called Skull is well underway!
🤓 Someone caved and finally bought a Kindle Paperwhite 👉👈
👻 More trailers this week: Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Brand New Cherry Flavor, Mosquito State
